Healthy Living with Chronic Conditions

Maybe you took some things for granted – like eating what you want, when you want or taking a break from exercise. Then you found out you have diabetes. Now managing your medications and lifestyle feels like a full time job. It can be overwhelming.

Everyone knows new habits take time. In the Healthy Living with Diabetes (HLWD) workshop you get the time and encouragement you need to make the changes you want to make. You’ll build new skills, practice what you learn, and share your experience with others. You’ll set your own goals and priorities. Week by week, you’ll see what works for you and take steps toward healthier living.

Healthy Living with Chronic Pain

Many people struggle with chronic pain, yet each person’s experience is unique. So there’s no one treatment or approach that’s right for everybody. The good news is that there are things you can do to feel better.

Research shows that the mind and the body are connected when it comes to pain. Emotions, feelings, and thoughts directly influence how pain affects us. Pain management strategies will not necessarily eliminate your pain, but they will help you to better manage the pain so you can become more active. Healthy Living with Chronic Pain (HLCP) teaches these strategies and helps you determine which tools and techniques work best for you.

Join a HLCP workshop to explore ways to better manage your chronic pain. Take the time to make the changes you want to make. Build your “pain management toolbox”, practice new concepts, and share your experience with others. Set your own goals and priorities. Week-by-week, you’ll see what works for you and take steps toward healthier living.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers

You may not even think of yourself as a caregiver – you’re simply helping someone you love. But when the stresses and difficulties that often come with caregiving become overwhelming, it’s important to take care of yourself too. That’s where our caregiving program can help!

Stand Up Move More

The couch may be comfy, but spending too much time sitting is bad for your health. Time to Stand Up and Move More!

Research shows that excessive sedentary behavior (or ‘sitting time’) has been linked to serious health consequences. In fact, too much sitting time is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes per day! The Stand Up & Move More program (also known as Stand Up) gives you strategies to do just that – stand up and move more!

The program is designed specifically for older adults who sit more than six hours per day. You’ll learn in a group with your peers and help each other identify strategies to stand up more often and for longer periods of time throughout the day. Stand Up has been researched and proven to reduce sitting time by 68 minutes per day.

Stepping On

Preventing Falls with Stepping On

If you’re like most people, you’re pretty careful about avoiding a fall. But there some factors you may not be aware of that can influence your fall risk. Stepping On addresses those factors and arms you with the information and strategies you need to avoid a fall.

In Stepping On workshops, we take fall prevention step-by-step. You’ll learn how to build and maintain the physical strength and balance you need to walk confidently. From footwear to prescriptions, you’ll learn what increases your risk of a fall, how to avoid it, and make an individualized action plan to stay on your feet and living life the way you want.
